amy's birthday purse

before and after felting

i didn't get a chance to block it. didn't realize it was her bday till AFTER. did this in two days. washed it (felted it) and gave it to her WET and UNBLOCKED. told her SHE had to block it. that IS the kind of friend i am

a felted cellphone credit card bag

i made
knit all in garter stitch. i put dimensions out there (approximate. i lost the paper i wrote them down on prior to felting it) but really, it's NOT important. neither is gauge. if you want it to felt, you MUST use 100% wool (NOT superwash either). i used brown sheep. i had a bunch of odds and ends left and a project like this is a PERFECT project for leftovers (i used a couple other hunks o' yarn that i couldn't identify but knew were wool). i used size 11 needles but again, use what you want or what you have. as you can see there are two pockets. one on the outside that is covered by the flap (which buttons) and one on the inside. i crocheted the bag together and crocheted a border around the pockets and the flap as well. a buttonhole was made in the flap. i made an i-cord strap using three strands of yarn and 3 stitches. if you click on the dimensions picture you'll get a larger view - just in case you want to see my measurements.

the finished measurements are; approximately 9x7"
red pocket 5"
white pocket 5.5"

when you're done with the bag, place in pillowcase and wash in warm to hot water with a bit of detergent. i let it go through an entire cycle. then block

it's not perfect but that's a true sign of something being made by me!

my new phone

and the little case i knit and felted for it

i used malabrigo and misti alpaca (both chunky) and BIG needles (i think 17 us, but not sure). for the pockets i used malagrigo but not chunky and much smaller needles. for the blue crocheted outline (yes, i know i did a HORRIBLE job there but hey, i made this for ME plus as you can see from some of the photos, a beverage or two may have been involved) i just used some yarn (wool) i had laying about. when i was done, i just threw it in a pillowcase and washed it with a few socks and 'unmentionables' on HOT. i let it go through the FULL cycle too

once again i reference the purl bee

i am making my friend matt a headband. he's a chef and he'll wear it while at work

i am going to use the to hide and hold hairband knitting pattern from an old knitty gritty (man, i MISS that show). i've made several of them. they're easy, stretchy and fast to make. they're great little last minute gifts too. (maroon knit is from diy site)

i want to put little skull and crossbones in the hairband. i decided to knit them in would be way too much of a pain. so i'll try the duplicate stitch when i'm done (i've never actually DONE the duplicate stitch before mind you). i'll follow the pattern with the yarn overs BUT in the middle i'll just do some all out straight knitting so there's room for the skulls. keep your fingers crossed for me!

purl bee's duplicate stitch tutorial (pink swatch is from purl bee's site)

little skull chart i'm going to use is from glampyreknits
