the creamed (corn) of the crop

..........The adorable “Scarecrow” from the classic movie “The Wizard of Oz” was cut in a 10-acre corn field, which I imagine would have us seeing flying monkeys in a couple of hours of mass confusion. This maze was located in Boise, Idaho........

oh shoot! if ANYTHING is me

THIS is it! from the crafty chica we get the mixed media wind chime (i am seriously in love. you see i come from the guerrilla style of decorating. i am NOT a little white christmas light kind o' babe. oh i am NOT judging you if that is who YOU are. it's NOT who i am. the MORE colors and the gaudier the better)

pomander tutorial from betz white

(pic of felted pomander from betz white site)

recipe to make a REAL pomander from me!

oranges (whole unpeeled, unbruised) or lemons or limes
whole cloves (loads o' cloves)
ground spices such as cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, ginger
powdered orris root (if you can't find powdered, you can always grind it yourself)
ribbon

there are plenty of sources of orris root on the web. here's one: caprilands herb farm which just happens to be in my state. get your whole cloves from a bulk herb/spice place as well. do NOT get them in the grocery store. besides being way too expensive, they may not be as fresh.

stick cloves all over the orange (by piercing through the skin. the cloves have a sharp point you know). arrange in pretty patterns or rows. roll in the powdered orris root mixed with the other ground spices. place in a cool dark place for a couple of weeks to dry. tie with ribbon and hang or give as gifts. i have them hanging on several of my door knobs.

(picture of pomander ball from instructables) . you may wonder why i didn't post one of my OWN photos. well i'll tell you. my camera is in my car. it's 2:28 am and i'm on the third floor. i am NOT going down to get the camera take a photo then post it then leave for work. i'll cheat and use the instructables one - the link also includes outofthewoods' directions for a pomander ball - so there!)

my second favorite time of the year

it even SMELLS autumnal out there.

i need to make some:

felted fall leaves (picture from craft stylish site)

oh no no no no no and no

this is TOO GOOD to be true. but it IS true. not just the yarn (which you can buy and which would eliminate color changes) but that hat. that hat that hat that hat. AND it's a free pattern.

what hat you ask? why, the candy corn hat i answer!

(picture from material whirled Reenie Hanlin)

and while you're there check out the rainbows eve hat pattern too. and while you're checking out the pattern check out all the handspun yarns. nice. REALLY nice

(and it would go SO WELL with that candy corn bag you felted LAST year! crochet directions on the lion brand site. knitted directions so VERY graciously provided by the purling sprite)

Body-Technology Interfaces

Participatory Design Conference 2008 (download PDF below), and ongoing.

Our interactions with personal electronic devices provoke a broad range of emotions from frustration to confusion to feverish obsession. Increasingly, these devices dominate our everyday work activities, our behavior in public space, and our personal communications. Becky will conduct interviews to help create custom-knitted coverings for participants' personal electronic devices. The installation aims to bring critical awareness and consideration to the complex relationship between people and technological artifacts. Each BTI will reflect salient interaction behaviors between the participant and their chosen device, as well as provoke thought in observers..............

More photos are available on Flickr.

A loose outline of a pattern for these devices can be found on Instructables.

Special thankd to Terri McCook of the Fiber Factory in Mesa, AZ for the gracious loan of her knitting machine.

i don't actually remember what i ordered but here are some pictures of SOME of the fabrics cheap threads offers (all pictures are from the cheap threads site)

when some of the beads are done, i'll post the pictures and perhaps the directions too. although i think i already did that. i'll go back and check to see if i did or not.

anyway, i can't wait till my fabric arrives!
